Sustainable Use of Tire-Derived Aggregate in the Protection of Buried Concrete Pipes under Combined Soil and Traffic Loads

Tire-derived aggregate (TDA) has been used successfully as a backfill soil to reduce the applied stresses on buried steel pipes. The preceding study, however, paid no attention inspecting TDA efficiency of concrete pipes subjected and traffic loads. In addition, it is not clear how material, loading, burial depth, road section affect pipe-bending moment. Therefore, this paper examines in reducing bending moment 0.6 m pipe combined loads using validated three-dimensional finite element model. Two trench configurations have constructed, first composed completely well graded sand, second similar except for 150 mm layer top crown, which replaced with TDA.
